Dear Desert Willow Families,

Welcome back to the new year! 2022 came quickly as we are making our way through this school year quite swiftly.

COVID Update:

As you are aware, we are in the midst of a COVID-19 surge within our community and within our schools. For your weekly COVID update (Jan. 3-9): we were notified of 4 positive cases within our DWE community (this includes DWE staff and students). You can expect to receive a weekly update from me with this information and the district-wide information is shared on the Vail School District dashboard HERE.

We are implementing the new guidelines and recommendations from the CDC. These new guidelines include a reduced isolation period and a consideration of the vaccination status of close contacts. The guidelines can be found HERE. This means that if your student is identified as a close contact of a positive student, when Mrs. Owens or I call you, we will need to review more information than we did previously.

As we work through these new guidelines, our goal is still to keep students coming to DWE for in-person instruction as much as possible. It is truly what we believe to be best for kids. We are so appreciative of the support and kindness we’ve encountered from our DWE school community.

DWE is hiring! If you are interested in learning more about any of these vacancies, please reach out to me! We are currently looking for a:

Health Aide, 2nd position (6.5 hours/day)
Special Needs Paraprofessional (6.5 hours/day)
Certified Subs to cover classrooms and Classified Subs to help with playground duty when other staff members are absent.
