This week in COIL our classes celebrated International Dot Day, based on the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds, this day encourages creativity, courage, and collaboration. In STEM our scientists continued practicing using their senses to explore the world around them. In art many of our classes have been using different art mediums and were creating with watercolors. In P.E. many classes were finishing up their soccer unit by playing 2 vs 2 games. In music our second grade classes were learning solfège and where all the notes of the scale live on 'Pitch Hill.'

We had another amazing week in Specials! Check out some of the amazing things happening in these incredible courses!
Next week we will be having our Fall Parent Teacher Conferences, because of conferences we will be having half days with noon (12 pm) dismissal both Thursday and Friday. We are so excited to get this opportunity to meet with families! If you have not signed up yet there is still time to do so!

This week we are highlighting some of the incredible things happening in our Specials Classes!
In PE with Mrs. McCabe the students learned and practiced juggling a soccer ball. In COIL with Dr. D our 4th and 5th graders did some grammar review, learned about German author Cornelia Funke, and checked out library books. In music with Mrs. Minch students learned and practiced with different rhythms. In STEM with Ms. Fontaine our young scientists practiced making hypotheses and identifying different materials by smell. In art with Mrs. Ingerson students learned about the color wheel and made color wheel flowers.
We are so lucky at Desert Willow to have amazing specialist who are experts in their fields that are passionate about sharing their knowledge with students.

We had two more firsts of the school year this week! We had our first Fine Dining Lunch Experience and the first Diamondbuck Store!

We had a literary week here at DWE! We had our first Book Fair of the year and we had our first Birthday Book Day (formerly Free Book Friday) of the year as well!
A huge thank you to the PTA and Mrs. Kendryna for running the Birthday book program and thank you to Dr. D, Mrs. Radspinner, and all the incredible volunteers who put on the Book Fair! We couldn't do it without you all!

Next week we will be having out first PTA and Site Council Meetings for the 2026/2027 school year. These are both wonderful opportunities to get involved in the Desert Willow Community!

We had another amazing week this week! We had our first campus wide Buddy Day on Monday! Grade Level Buddies is something we do at Desert Willow where students at different grade levels get to work with and learn from students that they may not get to interact with on a daily basis. Ask your kiddo about what they did with their buddy this week! Also, some of our 5th graders went on their third Starbase adventure this week as well!
We have lots more clubs and activities starting this week!

We had another amazing week at Desert Willow! Students started checking out books in the library, we had our Kindness Challenge Fundraiser Kick-Off Assemblies, and Ms. Gossen and Mrs. Rios' classes went to StarBase for their second day.
